A surprising win after two disappoing games. And the Great Derbies are coming!
After having lost the Cup of Poland semifinal to Dyskobolia Cracovia’s poor form continued, as Pasy lost in Gdynia and failed to beat Wisła Płock at home. But the last game before the grand derby vs Wisła Kraków against Korona in Kielce showed some signs of improvement. The 2-1 win against the Cup of Poland runner-up and one of the league’s top teams awakes our hopes before the Kraków’s Holy War clash no. 172.
When Pasy failed to beat Dyskobolia in the Cup of Poland semifinal the team had two objectives: to win as many games until the end of the season and the special one: beat Wisła Kraków. The first objective seemed to be quiet easy, as Pasy faced to teams from the league’s bottom: Arka Gdynia and Wisła Płock (the league’s last team). But Cracovia disappointed and gained only one point in these two games.
The game in Gdynia was a good show, but mainly due to poor form of Cracovia’s defense. Arka had many chances and only thanks to the indolence of their strikers the tally was no bigger than four, while Pasy scored only twice. Already in 6th minute Kowalski scored the opener for Gdynia, but Cracovia equalized 20 minutes later after an own-goal by Sobieraj. Three minutes before the half-time Arka put their nose in front once again after Wachowicz’s goal. In 53rd minute Bojarski scored the equalizer after Skrzyński’s long pass and a low drive into the left corner. In 70th minute Nawrocik’s header once more gave the lead to Arka. This time Pasy did not equalize, while Arka finished Cracovia off, as Skrzyński handballed in the area and Dziedzic scored from the spot in 90th minute. This was a poor performance by Cracovia, Arka made use of fatal marking errors and won the game deservedly.
A week later Cracovia fans hoped for some rehabilitation, as Wisła Płock, the 16th team in the table, came to Kałuży. The game began however with Wisła’s shots, just off the target fortunately. But in 14th minute Pasy scored after a fine action as the ball moved from one player to the other and Bojarski scored from 10 meters after some nine consecutive passes by the half of the team. Wisła responded quickly: Michalek dribbled pass Radwański and sent a low drive from the right, Cabaj saved it but failed to keep the ball, so Kowalski scored with ease. The game was tied after the first half. In 56th minute Cracovia’s defense made a fatal error as Gregorek beat the offside trap and scored with a tricky shot. It must be said that Pasy played really poor game until that moment. But in 60th minute Giza was substituted by Bania, who needed just three minutes to make the breakthrough. He dynamically ran into Wisła’s penalty box, where he was fouled by Gubiec. Bania himself took the penalty and scored with a thunderous strike. After the equalized Cracovia tried to score the winning goal, but Nowak’s banana-shot was saved in style by Gubiec and Pawlusiński failed to score in one-on-one situation. The draw was a fair result, though really disappointing for Pasy.
Three days later Cracovia went to Kielce to face Korona, who, despite horrible recent form, was still the fourth team of the league. It was Korona who attacked during the first half, but it was Cracovia who scored twice. In 13th minute Nowak played a good through ball to Moskała who was blocked by the defenders, but the ball was cleared right to the feet of Kłus who scored from 15 meters with a fantastic shot. Korona had their chances, the best came when Kaczmarek’s long distance drive hit the bar. Just one minute before the half-time Cracovia doubled the lead, as Nowak with a smart cross found Giza unmarked at the penalty-box line and our central midfielder scored with a powerful left-footed drive. In the second half Korona pushed even harder, but scored only once, as Kowalczyk scored with a tricky lob after Robak’s low cross from the right. In the last minute Giza had a perfect chance, but after dribbling past the defender he failed to score in one-on-one situation. This was very important win and this should give the team a boost of confidence before the derby game against Wisła.
